America did not build sports cars until this one. The Corvette arrived as a fibreglass experiment with a straight-six and an automatic gearbox, and very nearly died in its first two years — until a V8 went in and the car found the character it had been missing entirely.
This print shows the C1 in its best-known form: the coved bodyside in contrasting white, quad headlights, a chrome grille full of teeth, and whitewall tyres. It is a shape from a period when American design was borrowing from jet aircraft and not apologising for it, and it still reads as optimistic in a way modern cars rarely manage.
What makes the C1 worth a wall is that it is the origin point. Every Corvette since — the Sting Ray, the mid-engined C8 — traces back to a fibreglass two-seater that Chevrolet almost cancelled. Rendered in fine detail across the chrome, the cove trim and the whitewalls, printed matte so the red stays deep rather than glossy.
