Mazda looked at the British roadsters of the sixties, kept the joy and left out the oil leaks. The first Miata arrived in 1989 with a 1.6-liter four, a curb weight of around 2,100 pounds and a philosophy Mazda calls Jinba Ittai: horse and rider as one. It went on to become the best-selling two-seat roadster in history.
